Are you properly caring for your weights?
By prioritizing intelligent calibration weight storage and complementing it with diligent cleaning and careful handling, you're not just preserving your weights; you're investing in the fundamental accuracy and reliability of all your weighing processes. Don't let preventable errors compromise your work.
- Always store your calibration weights in their original. These cases can prevent dust accumulation, coded inserts that prevent mix-ups and protect the weight's finish.
- Use specialized handles for bigger weights
- Store weights near the balance and allow ample time for them to acclimate to the same temperature before use.
- Inspect for damage prior to use. Check it for dust, water and other contamination - these should be avoided with proper storage but still be aware.
- Handle weights with care. Weights should be placed gently at the center of the weighing pan and care should be taken not to shock load the balance.
- Do not touch weights with bare hands. Make sure to wear gloves or use tweezers when handling the weights. Use non-magnetic and non-abrasive tweezers or a suitable pair of clean leather, cotton or nylon gloves.
- Do not use a weight with dust or water on its surface.
- Clean according to OIML/ASTM recommendations. Brushing dust off weights: Use anti-static brush. microfiber cloth or bellows to blow dust off the surface.
- Do not clean with abrasive or caustic chemicals. These can react with the surface and form oxides, increasing the weight.
